Blogging from the road...

I am typing this blog during our last couple of hours to Chicago. We left around 9:30 this morning and hope to arrive at 5:30!!

Our typical day of driving starts out with singing, and praying. Next we put on some music. Each of the girls compiled their favorite songs and Jeff put them on a CD. We drew names to see what order they would be played in. Becca was yesterday and we enjoyed everything from the African Children’s Choir to Def Lepard. Jeff and I were taken back to our high school days! Kaitlyn’s was a bit more mellow but she had a good mix.

We usually drive the first 2.5 hours while we listen to the chosen CD, the girls do crossword puzzles, colour, or play on their ds’s. We make a quick stop at a rest area and whip together a little snack or “snunch” depending on what time of day it is!

We drive again for another 2.5 hours and watch an entire DVD of Full House episodes. These have been great to have along. We bought them for the girls for Valentines Day and have been saving them for the trip. Another break at a rest stop and we’re off.

Now we are driving again and we are listening to Down Gilead Lane, which are stories on cd. We all love them.

We are getting more and more excited about seeing the other half of our family. We will see Bethany (our niece) tonight at Wheaton where she goes to college. We are looking forward to taking the train in to Chicago tomorrow morning and doing some shopping. The girls are dying to go to the American Girl Doll store. There are only 3 in the States and one is in Chicago. We are also looking forward to meeting Bethany’s boyfriend Jake. Should be a great weekend.

The most exciting scenery I’ve seen in the last few days (excluding, of course, those 14 evergreens I mentioned yesterday!) has definitely been the diverse species of road kill. I have personally seen 100’s of creatures in different forms of decomposition. Road kill, I’ve discovered, is one of those things that is so gross you mean to turn your head but its pull is too strong, you just can’t look away. Know what I mean? I’m really spilling my guts here (tee hee) and better go do something useful…like floss!. Ang.
